Salutatorian Speech

Good morning and thank you all for attending this exciting and special day with each of us. As we gather here to celebrate more than a decade of long, hard years of learning, we are surrounded by all of the people who taught and inspired us throughout our lives. Although yesterday was our last day of high school, like most seniors we have been mentally done for about a month. Needless to say, without our oh-so-patient teachers, some more than others, encouraging family and friends, we would definitely not be sitting here today. In fact, I'm pretty sure a few of my classmates finally turned in their senior portfolios this week.

Besides my classmates' lack of motivation at times, you could say we are a very unique bunch. We range anywhere from farmers, to Pokemon lovers, to athletes, to mathletes and pretty much anywhere in between those lines. But with these different personalities, we still know the ins and outs of each other. We all know that if you want a good grade in science, BE STACIA'S LAB PARTNER. We know that McNeil will win every PE game, no matter what the circumstance, so he was always the first pick. We know that if Alexis is mad, it's most likely because of Max and Caleb. And we all know that debates include Caleb yelling at the top of his lungs and Parker referencing something from Japan.

All the adventures that have occurred throughout high school have brought us closer together than I think any of us could have really imagined. If I had been given a choice when I first entered high school, I probably would never have picked this small group of people to be my classmates for the next four years. But now, after what seems like an eternity of assemblies, second-quarter research projects, bus rides and dreaded class meetings, I don't think I would have wanted it any other way.

We have shared so many common adventures in and out of the classroom. Whether we've been here for the full 12 years or just became a classmate this year, our lives have become intertwined. We are not just a group of students who attend classes together, but we are a dysfunctional, functioning family as well.

I'd like to thank the teachers who never gave up on us, even when it seemed like it was the only option. I'd also like to thank our parents for supporting us from the very beginning and being there through it all. And thank you to everyone else whether it's our family, friends or community members, who have helped us to be where we are today.
