INCIDENT LOG

Editor’s note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Monday, Oct. 10: Railroad crossing arms on North Birch Street in Odessa were reported broken.

A responding deputy couldn’t find any cause for a man’s report of hearing thumping from under a mobile home in the 200 block of Morgan Street in Davenport.

A caller reported three instances of littering on portions of property adjacent to Zimmerman Road at Starkel in the Almira area.

A Wilbur caller reported the theft of $3,500 from a residence on Crick Road North.

Tuesday, Oct. 11: A deputy removed two Superior Court defendants from the courtroom after they allegedly became “disruptive.” Another inmate returned from court with belly chains stuck on his wrist, requiring the use of bolt cutters to remove the cuff, with no injury reported.

No injury was reported after a City of Spokane dump truck rolled onto its side and into an adjacent field while traveling Plaster Road south of U.S. 2 in the Reardan area.

An individual was bitten on the leg by a dog on property adjacent to Cayuse Cove Road in the Davenport area.

After a search originating in the Welch Creek area north of Creston, deputies located a man described as potentially suicidal and offered assistance from local mental health personnel.

Wednesday, Oct. 12: A Davenport caller told dispatchers he returned home from work and found his 41-year-old wife had died, possibly as a result of taking too much medication.

A man believed injured in a rollover collision in the vicinity of Bodeau Road in the Almira area was ultimately located in the Grand Coulee hospital.

A Sprague caller expressed her concern that two men working from a pickup truck with Oregon plates in the 400 block of South D Street had turned a sales conversation for DISH satellite television into one about Jesus.

A deputy noticed a vehicle parked alongside Star Road and SR 28 and two people walking away from it carrying shovels.

Thursday, Oct. 13: Sprague school personnel conducted an intruder drill.

A Davenport woman reported being the target of harassment.

A Davenport caller requested assistance with removing an unwanted person from a residence in the 20 block of Merriam Street.

An “aggressive” panhandler was reported at one of the entrances to Davenport’s Safeway store. The man told a responding deputy that he was only trying to get some gas money.

Friday, Oct. 14: The Porcupine Bay area north of Davenport was involved in an electrical outage that reportedly was caused by a broken pole. Power was restored within one to three hours.

A stop sign was reported blown over and broken at the intersection of Harrington Tokio and Hardy roads.

A Wilbur woman reported someone fraudulently used her credit card to order an iPhone from eBay for $460.

Two bicycles were discovered in a ditch off SR 28 near Mountain View Cemetery south of Davenport.

A caller expressed concern about a young colt with a badly injured front leg on property adjacent to Crescent Road in the Reardan area. Its owner informed a responding deputy that the animal was born with defects and would be put down.

Assistance from deputies was requested by a man involved in a domestic assault at a residence on Laney Brothers Road in the Odessa area.

A caller expressed concern about noise coming from a garage used by kids for skating in the 900 block of Main Street in Davenport.

Saturday, Oct. 15: A dispute between hunters was reported in the Mill Canyon area with a truck used to block access on a county road.

A caller reported seeing a pickup truck chasing deer through a field on state land in the Redwine Canyon area at speeds of more than 50 miles per hour.

A power pole was ablaze in the 33500 block of Mill Canyon Road, requiring intervention from Davenport firefighters and a Inland Power and Light Co. crew.

Wilbur ambulance personnel transported a 76-year-old man bleeding from the crotch from the 200 block of NE Cliff Avenue to Lincoln Hospital in Davenport.

Reardan EMTs and Davenport ambulance personnel assisted a woman who was trapped inside a vehicle involved in a collision on U.S. 2 just east of Reardan.

A Rocklyn Road resident said hunters shooting from the roadway hit her house and the roof of a barn.

Deputies looked along SR 25 about 23 miles north of Davenport for a pickup truck carrying a moose after receiving information from Spokane Tribal authorities.

A flatbed truck was observed recklessly driving on county roads and wheat fields in the vicinity of Bisson Road near Reardan.

After deputies had mounted a search, an Odessa man whose son reported him as overdue from hunting eventually turned up at home after having a difficult time changing a flat tire on his vehicle.

Sunday, Oct. 16: A Bald Ridge Road resident reported seeing someone shooting from the road. Elsewhere, on private property south of SR 28 on Star Road, a trespasser was caught shooting a deer.

Creston ambulance personnel transported a 65-year-old woman with chest pains from the former Vista Manor in Wilbur to Lincoln Hospital in Davenport.

A Wilbur man reported that an “older woman” had harassed a babysitter and dog at a residence on SE Regent Avenue.

Someone reportedly illegally shot a deer in the vicinity of Deer and Holderby roads north of Davenport.

Reardan Police investigated a report that three vehicles had been vandalized with tires slashed and scratches while parked in the 500 block of East Cottonwood Avenue.

Oct. 11: Derek Rieke, 48, Davenport, confined by the court for driving under the influence of drugs.

Jeffrey Q. Phillips, 45, Harrington, arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s office for driving while license suspended.

Oct. 14: Michael A. Sanchez, 44, Deer Park, confined by the court for reckless driving.

From Oct. 11 to 17, 14 individuals were held in the Lincoln County Jail under contract with the Washington State Department of Corrections, along with one held on an out-of-state warrant from Oregon.

Criminal Sentencings

Kurtis Allen Klingenberg, 18, Grand Coulee, pleaded guilty Oct. 11 to second-degree theft and second-degree burglary after a plea negotiation that resulted in the withdrawal of forgery (two counts), second-degree possession of stolen property, a second count of second-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree malicious mischief. The charges are associated with incidents on Aug. 12 and 24 of this year resulting in damage to a local storage unit and attempts to cash stolen checks at local financial institutions. His sentence included 47 days in jail with credit for time served; court assessments of $760 and $860, respectively; $350 attorney reimbursement; $190.71 restitution to Lynn’s Storage with other restitution pending; six months probation; and enrollment in school by March 1, 2017, to avoid another 43 days in jail.

John Michael (Mikel) Lawson, 22, Davenport, pleaded guilty Oct. 11 to delivery of a legend drug and possession of methamphetamine after a plea negotiation that resulted in the withdrawal of a second count of delivery of a legend drug and first-degree trafficking in stolen property. His sentence includes 90 days in jail with credit for time served; court assessments of $860 and $900, respectively; 12 months probation; $44 restitution to Davenport Auto Parts; and $350 attorney reimbursement. The charges are associated with incidents on May 6, Sept. 6-8 and 16 of this year, including selling batteries reported stolen from residential property in Davenport to the local NAPA outlet.

Was there no arrests or incidents between October 20, 2016 and November 10? There seems to be over two weeks worth of news missing. I know we all want to forget the election but some of us are still living here.
