The Odessa Record -

Summer day camp for Lincoln, Adams counties

Grants from the Washington State Library and Inland Northwest Community Foundation mean that kids in Lincoln and Adams counties can take advantage of a fun summer day camp beginning this July.

The day camp program, called Stimulating Summers, will be available in Reardan, Harrington and Lind. The day camp will run for six weeks beginning July 3 and ending August 11. Registration will begin in early April and will cost $50 a week.

Morning activities are being planned around themes such as pirates, astronomy (partial solar eclipse this August), mad science and art around the world.

Kids will have the opportunity to keep up their reading skills visiting the library each day for a program and the opportunity to check out books.

In the afternoon, kids will visit community pools and play sports. They also will have the chance to attend their local Vacation Bible School programs in conjunction with this program.

Field trips are being scheduled for Fort Spokane, Inland Northwest Rail Museum, Lincoln County Museum, Grand Coulee Dam/Colville Tribal Museum and Mobius Science Museum.

In addition, these camps will also serve as free summer meal sites for both the children attending the camps and other kids in the communities.

Other than family or friends, there are no organized summer-long programs to provide child care for grade school children in all of Lincoln County and Lind in Adams County. This day camp program was conceived to provide organized experiential learning opportunities for children ages 6 through 13.

The program came together through the combined efforts of the Ritzville Library District, Reardan City Library, WSU Lincoln County extension service, Lincoln County Economic Development Council and Washington State Library. The city of Reardan is serving as the administrative lead for the grants.

For questions about the program, contact Reardan City Librarian Suzanne Schulz at or 509 994-9997.
