Wilson Creek man killed in one-vehicle car crash

Near WILSON CREEK, Wash. (06AUGUST2017) – A 47-year-old Wilson Creek man has died in a one-vehicle collision north of Wilson Creek.

Thomas Veenstra was driving a 2016 Dodge Challenger which crashed sometime Saturday late afternoon or evening on Road Q-Northeast south of Road 25-Northeast. He died at the scene.

Veenstra’s family notified sheriff’s deputies around 8 p.m. Saturday that Veenstra had taken the Challenger out for a brief drive but had not returned after several hours. Deputies searched the Wilson Creek area and later found the crash scene.

Veenstra’s body is in the care of Coroner Craig Morrison whose staff will conduct an autopsy. Veenstra’s family has been notified.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Motor Traffic Unit believe the Challenger was traveling at high speed when Veenstra lost control, struck a roadside embankment and rolled, coming to rest o n its top. Veenstra was not wearing a seat belt.

The investigation continues.
