Letter to the Editor: Hammond is choice for 13th District

To the Editor:

As I read the news of Matt Manweller’s firing from Central Washington University following the investigation into reports of inappropriate conduct, I was reassured that we in the 13th Legislative District have a choice this November to elect a candidate of integrity, clarity and compassion, Sylvia Hammond.

Sylvia Hammond has been farming with her husband in Grant County for 38 years, has raised their family, has worked in the public school system as an employee and more recently as a volunteer, is active in her church and community. Through that breadth of experience, she has built an understanding of the needs of our legislative district and commits to meeting those needs.

Sylvia commits to education to meet the needs of all students, to support public schools, colleges, universities, professional, technical education programs and apprenticeships.

Sylvia commits to agriculture to develop programs to help small and medium-sized farms survive and compete and to protect the health and safety of our farmers and laborers.

She commits to workers to provide equal pay for equal work, livable wages, safe working environments and affordable health care.

Sylvia commits to gun rights to address the tragedy of gun violence, to protect the Second Amendment and to protect ourselves and our children.

Above all, Sylvia declares in a recent document, “I respect the rights and beliefs of everyone, even those different from my own. I believe politics have become too divisive and too crude.” I agree with Sylvia and will give her my vote in November.
