The Odessa Record -

Planning under way for 50th anniversaries in 2020

Series: Chamber of Commerce | Story 2

December 12, 2019

The December 10 meeting of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce at noon in the public library was by far more sparsely attended than last month’s meeting at which several guests were present. Nevertheless, the members who were present Tuesday voted to adopt the proposed budget for 2020, which provided for conservative estimates for the coming year based on the past three year’s worth of actual values for each line item.

The Odessa Community Float committee, provisionally under the leadership of Kim Todd, met for the first time in the high school library Tuesday evening. The Chamber has budgeted line items this year both for the scholarship(s) to be awarded to Odessa royalty and for maintaining and decorating the float. Besides stipulating that the float must advertise the dates of the upcoming Fest, other details were being left up to the committee which has drawn a number of interested participants. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Election of officers

Nominations for Chamber officers for 2020 were re-opened at the December meeting, although no additional persons were nominated. The officers for 2020 are Zach Schafer as president, Jeff Huiras as vice president, Lise Ott as secretary and Larissa Zeiler as treasurer. Michelle Melgren and Terrie Schmidt-Crosby were elected to at-large positions on the board of directors. The third board position is held by 2020 Biergarten chairman Kory Kolterman.

Kolterman is busy planning for a 50th Deutschesfest to remember. He and co-chair Shelby Smith have been busy brainstorming ideas to reinvigorate enthusiasm for the event locally, regionally and throughout the Northwest.
