Jerry Kern

Jerry Kern, son of Jim and Dee Kern, died unexpectedly on March 3, 2020 at the age of 48 at his home in Granbury, TX.

Jerry was born in Spokane on May 31, 1971. He was affectionately known as "Bear" to those who knew and loved him. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1990 and Boise State University in 1996 with a degree in English writing. He also attended Eastern Washington University and graduated in 1998 with a degree in Graphic Communication. Jerry married Michelle on April 23, 2005 in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Jerry and Michelle met in Davenport, WA, and raised their family there and later in Granbury,TX.

Jerry grew up in Harringbn, WA, and attended school there through 8th grade until his family moved to Fairfield, WA, in the summer of 1986. Jerry spent much of his life working on the Maurer family farm and ranch. Starting from age 10, Jerry was his Grandpa Melvin's and Uncle Gary's summer shadow on the farm. Jerry's love for farming remained his entire life, and he returned for wheat harvest each summer, even after relocating to his current home in Granbury, TX. Jerry also had a special place in his heart for the family cabin on Lake Roosevelt where he spent many summer weekends skiing, fishing and relaxing.

Jerry was a very talented artist and craftsman. He excelled at all types of art, but was especially fond of woodworking where he created many pieces that are hanging in the homes of friends and family today. Jerry was also an excellent carpenter and spent most of the last 15 years earning a living in this trade.

Jerry is survived by his parents; his wife Michelle Kern; his children, Alicia Smith;

Jennifer Hemphill and daughter: Malorie Rodgers, husband Grant and two children; Elyzabeth Smith, husband Scott and two children; Chelsea Smith and husband JD; DJ Smith; Cain Kern, wife Lacie and son; and Mya Kern; sister, Kim Flick, husband Travis and four children; brother Tony Kern, wife Veronica and three children; grandmother. Margaret Maurer and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Melvin Maurer and cousin, Shawn Maurer.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, brother, son and friend who will be dearly missed by all. Please join us in a celebration of his life on March 28th at 1:00 p.m. at the Harrington United Methodist Church in Harrington, WA. There was a memorial service held on March 10th in his hometown of Granbury, TX for friends and family there.
