Henneman takes The Times' helm

DAVENPORT — A longtime Eastern Washington journalist has been selected as the new editor of The Davenport Times.

Jamie Henneman of Addy, said she is enthusiastic about joining The Times and serving Lincoln County.

“I have a strong commitment to ensuring our rural communities in Eastern Washington have a voice,” Henneman said. “I have been so fortunate to share the stories of the resiliency and grit of Eastern Washington’s towns and farms and ranches in my work. We have something special here and it is a pleasure to share that through my writing.”

“Jamie’s rural roots and her experience make her an ideal editor for The Davenport Times,” Publisher Roger Harnack said. “In addition to her print publication experience, she’s also knowledgeable about digital and social media platforms, which will be key to securing The Times’ future for years to come.”

Henneman will oversee news and sports coverage in the Davenport, Harrington and Reardan areas.

Henneman will be working cooperatively with Odessa Record Editor Terrie Schmidt-Crosby, and Cheney Free Press’ Managing Editor John McCallum and reporter Drew Larson to provide comprehensive coverage of area news and sports.

A native of Eastern Washington, Henneman has worked for several newspapers in the region, including the Statesman-Examiner in Colville and The Independent in Chewelah. She also spent four years as a court reporter for Courthouse News, covering civil litigation and trials throughout Washington state for the legal publication.

Along with her work for weekly and daily papers, Henneman has also been an active freelance writer for nearly two decades, covering agriculture for specialty publications.

Henneman’s understanding of agriculture runs deep, having grown up on the family farm near Addy. She currently lives on the farm and is helping her son, Beau, build a direct-market beef business, Inland Empire Beef.

Henneman has a bachelor of arts degree in humanities from Washington State University and a master of arts in international relations.

When she isn’t chasing down a story, Henneman enjoys being involved in rodeo, writing western fiction novels and training her new cowdog, Roo, a Blue Heeler puppy.

As Henneman settles into the job, she’ll be establishing standard office hours for The Times.
