A Spokane County Sheriff's Office forensics technician points out evidence to a deputy at the scene of a shooting this morning at 842 N. Howard St., Medical Lake.

MEDICAL LAKE – One person is in serious condition at an area hospital and two others are being questioned in connection with an early morning shooting today, Aug. 27.

The shooting occurred at about 3:50 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Mark Gregory said, noting it occurred at a home in the 800 block of North Howard Street.

One man was shot; and a man and a woman were detained for questioning, he said, noting that the names have not yet been released.

As of 10 a.m., the home at 842 N. Howard St. remained cordoned off by red crime scene tape. In the hours prior, the Major Crimes Unit and forensic technicians searched a red Toyota pick and the area around the home for evidence.

Crime scene tape cordons off North Howard Street as investigators review information from a shooting there this morning.

County records show the home is owned by Anthony M. Frontino, who purchased it May 8, 2015; law enforcement would not comment on whether the owner was involved in the shooting.

Deputies arriving on-scene shortly after the shooting learned the victim had been transported by an unknown person to an area hospital.

"An adult male who fired the shots was detained by arriving deputies," Cpl. Gregory said, noting the man told investigators he shot the other man in self-defense.

A woman is also being interviewed, he said, noting the three people have given different stories detailing the incident.

"At this time, due to conflicting information from the parties involved, no one has been arrested," he said.

Cpl. Gregory said information was still being gathered and that he could not comment on whether the shooting occurred inside a vehicle being scoured by forensics personnel this morning.

"We're continuing to investigate," he said.
