Furhman announces intent to run for re-election

Seventh district legislative representative Steve Fuhrman (R-Kettle Falls) recently announced his intent to run for another four-year term.

First elected in 1982, the 44 year old farm supply business man in Colville emphasized his commitment to work for less government and more individual responsibility.

“More and bigger government is inconsistent with personal liberty and economic well –being” Fuhrman said.

Fuhrman noted that more jobs and a secure future does not come from more and bigger government. “It comes directly from our emphasizing tourism and strong, local industries.”

Other platform items for Furhman include maintaining gun owner rights, the right to use wood heat in homes, banning log exports to support our local sawmills and opposing a state income tax. Furhman said he also wants to find solution to the high cost of health care.

“I’m going to do all I can to continue promoting our area’s fishing and tourism potential,” Furhman said. “I want a balance on the spotted owl issue. Our forests must be kept open for logging”

Fuhrman is the assistant floor leader as well as serving on the House Rules, Revenue, Education and Natural Resources committees. He is also a member of the oversight House-Senate Legislative Budget Committee.

Davenport Gorillas take victory over Lake Roosevelt on Friday’s home opener

The Davenport Gorillas won their game against Lake Roosevelt with a score of 21-14 with the help of Davenport Quarterback Derik Oliver. Just before halftime, Oliver scored a touchdown and later intercepted a Raider pass in the end zone, preventing a score. Despite being held scoreless during the second half, the Gorillas got enough on the board during the first two quarters to secure their first win of the season.
