Odessa FBLA remains active despite pandemic

ODESSA – “They Saved our Life, So Have a Slice” was the slogan developed by Odessa High School freshmen for their Lead4Change service project. They set a big goal: Show our appreciation to all of Odessa’s frontline workers who have kept our community safe this year by cooking and delivering 400 flatbread pizzas. Their project was called “Frontline Flatbread Frenzy.” The freshmen carefully planned and organized the event, which allowed the entire chapter, with careful social distancing and safety protocols, to make and deliver the flatbread pizzas.

Community members were offered the opportunity to purchase them for themselves, with all proceeds from the sale used to provide pizzas to the frontline workers. FBLA members will complete one more round of deliveries to frontline workers during the last week in February. FBLA advisor Terri King said, “We appreciate all the community members who supported the project, and we hope all those who worked hard to keep our community safe know how much they are appreciated!”

Another feather in the cap of the FBLA chapter as whole was that the Washington state FBLA organization selected Odessa High School’s chapter as its Chapter of the Month for January. They are currently featured as such on the organization’s website:

“Odessa High School’s FBLA Chapter doesn’t back-down from a challenge! They’ve surpassed all expectations and grown their chapter’s engagement and outreach further than ever before. Their entire chapter participated in the NE Regional Fall Conference and watched the 2020 State Fall Conference together during class! Some of Odessa FBLA’s greatest accomplishments are seen in their community impact. They completed the Lead4Change Challenge and were awarded over $100,000 to help update their local swimming pool, replace the roof of the Senior Center, buy infrared equipment for the fire department and provide computer equipment to their school.

Odessa HS FBLA is an exemplarily FBLA Chapter. They engage each member and represent FBLA’s dedication toward service through so many of their actions!”
