Tigers lead the pack as all-league members

ODESSA – During their brief five-game season in 2021, the Odessa Tiger football team maintained its unbroken winning record. Now, several individual team members have been singled out for recognition on the all-league offensive and defensive teams.

All-League Offense

Selected as the Offensive Player of the Year was Pilot Weishaar, Odessa senior running back with 918 total yards for the abbreviated season, an average of 183.6 yards per game. He scored a total of 16 touchdowns. He added another 40 yards receiving for a grand total of 958 yards.

At quarterback, Jett Nelson, another Odessa senior, got the nod.

Running backs selected were Daeton Deife, an Odessa junior, as well as Trent Gwinn of Pomeroy and Beckett Odegaard of Wilbur-Creston-Keller (WCK).

All-league receivers selected were Tim DeWulf , Odessa senior, and Kale Struble of Tekoa-Rosalia.

Linemen were Keith Strebeck, Odessa senior, Drew Hardung, Odessa junior, Cody Wagner of WCK and Tyson Kimble of Pomeroy. Colton Messer of Odessa received Honorable Mention as a lineman.

Named an All-Purpose Player was Peyton Michael of WCK.

All-League Defense

Defensive Player of the Year was Odessa’s Tim DeWulf, who amassed 23 solo tackles and 15 assists. Of those tackles, 17.5 were for lost yardage.

Named as Defensive Backs were two Odessa Tigers, Jett Nelson and Collin Martin.

At the linebacker position were Pilot Weishaar and Drew Hardung, both of Odessa, as well as Trent Gwinn of Pomeroy and Peyton Michael of WCK.

All-league defensive linemen named were Keith Strebeck and PJ Finch of Odessa, as well as Cody Wagner of WCK and Braedyn White of Pomeroy.

At the kicker position, Odessa’s Jett Nelson got the nod.

All-purpose defensive player was Kale Struble of Tekoa-Rosalia.

And, last but certainly not least, Odessa assistant coach Justin Ziebel was named Coach of the Year. He coached a defense that allowed only 14 points to be scored against the Tigers all season.
