KETTLE FALLS – Two Davenport cross country runners qualified for the NE2B league championship race at the qualifying meet March 27, but a positive test within the team this week ended the team's season. Junior Jake Coffman and freshman Jarrett Jacobsen were among the top seven finishers in the boys 5,000 meters, but won't participate in the title meet in Asotin April 3.
Head coach Brian Telford said the team is disappointed it can't send anyone to Asotin, but the team plans to compete in the state virtual meet at the high school track after spring break.
Kettle Falls' Easton Pomrankey won the boys race to remain undefeated, while Asotin's Chloe Overberg won the girls 5,000 meters handily.
The top seven finishers in both high school races qualified for the championships. Asotin was also the host of the first meet of the season and featured the seven fastest times of the season to date for boys and the five fastest times for girls.
The meet was also the final race for middle schoolers. It was a victorious meet for the Reardan Indians, who finished with 26 points, ahead of St. George's 30. Seventh-grader Colton Lonning and sixth-grader Maveric Sobotta finished in third and fourth place respectively in the boys 1.5 mile race.
