DAVENPORT – The Gorillas won’t be fielding a high school team this season, athletic director Tim Zeiler and recently-hired head coach Ethan Wynecoop decided last week.

Less than nine players had been showing up to practice regularly, and the school determined there likely wouldn’t be enough regular participants to reliably hold a season. All games were cancelled.

Wynecoop said practices will still occur on Sundays at 3 p.m. for anyone who would like to play. Practices are also planned two nights a week from grades 3-5 in hopes of building up the program, he added.
