Davenport Pioneer Days returns July 16-18

DAVENPORT — After a two-year hiatus, Pioneer Days is back on the summer events menu.

This year’s installment will take place July 16-18.

The annual event that occurs every year during the third weekend of July was cancelled last year due to coronavirus mandates; it’s back on this year, with some changes.

The Pioneer Days Parade, which is sponsored by the Lions Club, starts at 11 a.m. July 17.

Check-in runs from 8-10 a.m. that day at Strate Funeral Home, 505 19th Street.

The parade route starts at the intersectino of Morgan and 10th streets and ends at Harker Street.

“The Lions Club is sponsoring most of (Pioneer Days) this year,” Chairwoman Dawn Canfield said.

The Kiddie Parade precludes the main parade at 10:45 a.m.

Line-up begins at 10 a.m. in the funeral home parking lot.

Entry forms for the parade are due July 10, but you can still sign up the day of the event until 10 a.m., according to the Pioneer Days website.

Vendors will be inside Memorial Hall and outside along Park and Sixth streets.

The Kids Fishing Derby runs from 7 a.m. until noon at City Park on Friday, July 16.

For the first time since 1994, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament will occur at Pioneer Days for grades 2-12, Canfield said. It starts at 8 a.m. July 17.

Registration closes July 9; there is an entry fee.

The Pioneer Plod 5K Fun Run and kid’s carnival won’t take place this year.

The 4H club is sponsoring Sunday morning breakfast July 18.
