Reardan council accepts sewer loan

REARDAN – Two motions and approval from council occurred, and the town is getting a $38,850 loan from the Department of Ecology to help finance a general sewer plan at Audubon Lake and the wastewater treatment facility here.

The loan has a 1.2% interest rate with a 20-year term. It has an early payoff option.

The total project costs $77,700, according to council documentation. It will evaluate the current wastewater collection system at the Reardan Wastewater Treatment Facility and identify what the town needs to do to stay compliant with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, with a long-term goal of improving water quality in Audubon Lake.

Accepting the loan required two action items from council. One was to enter into an agreement with the Department of Ecology for the sewer loan, and the second was to accept the loan itself.

Council also approved a quote from Central Air and Lights for $8,817.81 for air conditioning and lighting work at town hall.

Grow reinstated

Town reserve officer Mike Grow was reinstated by chief Andy Manke Tuesday, July 6 after he was previously placed on leave due to an investigation by Grow’s other employer, Spokane Public Schools, into possible rule breaking not of criminal nature.

The investigation concluded with Grow getting reinstated as a commissioned safety officer at SPS and as a reserve officer in Reardan following re-training of school district policies. The town once again has five reserve officers.

Grow had been on leave for three weeks while the investigation occurred.
