REARDAN – The Reardan football varsity boys didn’t see their season start the way they wanted it to. After going 0-5 in last year’s truncated, strange winter season, Northwest Christian (Colbert) appears to have leveled up after thumping Reardan 40-0 in the season opener for both squads Friday, Sept. 3.
Junior quarterback Mike Bauman was 8-for-10 passing and threw two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Aidan Tibbetts ran for two touchdowns and caught one, while sophomore Ryan Waters picked off two Tate Nelson passes and accounted for 170 yards of total offense for NWC.
Two-star tight end Jonny Lester notched two sacks for the Crusaders.
Reardan won’t get another crack at an NE2B opponent until Asotin comes to town Friday Sept. 17. In the meantime, Oroville comes to town for Reardan’s home opener Saturday, Sept. 11 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The Hornets are a 2B team from North Central Washington in District 6’s Central Washington 2B league that also features teams like Lake Roosevelt, Okanogan and Brewster.
Reardan, Chewelah, Liberty, Kettle Falls and Colfax all took losses in Week 1 in the NE2B. Davenport, NWC, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and Asotin were the victorious league members. Preseason first-place pick Chewelah fell to Lake Roosevelt in a nonleague contest.
