Reardan footballs slips at Chewelah 47-7

Visitors fall to 2-4 this season

CHEWELAH-Friday's matchup between the Reardan football team and the Chewelah Cougars featured one team fighting for a state playoff berth and the other fighting to avoid the cellar of the NE2B. That showed on the field, as the visitors fell to Chewelah 47-7 Oct. 8.

Reardan fell to 1-4 in league play and 2-4 overall with the loss. The team's only league win came in a homecoming romp over Kettle Falls Oct. 1.

Chewelah's offense rolled up and down the field Friday, while Reardan's offense was shut out for the third time this season. Reardan's only score came in the second quarter, when senior Cody Sprecher returned a kickoff 71 yards to the house.

Chewelah quarterback Clayton Jenneret tossed three touchdowns in the first half, while running back Ben Thorason totaled three touchdowns-two on the ground, and one through the air. Reardan trailed 26-7 at halftime, and Chewelah added 19 more points in the second half to extend its lead.

Reardan's offense couldn't muster much against the Cougar defense. The visitors managed just three first downs, lost two fumbles and threw an interception while going 1-for-12 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth down.

Chewelah, meanwhile, picked up 24 first downs and racked up 450 yards of total offense to just 42 yards for Reardan.

All of Reardan's net yards came through the air, as sophomore quarterback Tate Nelson completed six of his 18 pass attempts for 42 yards and a pick. Reardan's ground game was erased for a net zero gain.

Reardan's schedule doesn't get much easier looking forward, with a trip to undefeated Lind-Ritzville/Sprague coming up Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. After that, Reardan has two straight home games against Colfax and the rival Davenport Gorillas.
