Colfax runs by Reardan 42-19

REARDAN-Mason Gilchrist ran for four touchdowns and the Colfax Bulldogs earned a 42-19 victory over a Reardan football team that outgained its visitors but couldn't string together enough scores to keep up Friday, Oct. 22.

Reardan fell to 1-6 in NE2B play and 2-6 overall, while Colfax vaulted into fourth place in the league while improving to 4-3 in league and 5-3 overall.

Senior running back Abe Nelson had a big day for the home team, opening the game with a 63-yard touchdown run and finishing the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown reception from his brother, sophomore quarterback Tate Nelson.

Abe Nelson had 149 rushing yards and 86 receiving yards on the game. His running back counterpart in Gilchrist, however, had 101 yards and four touchdowns as Colfax built a 22-13 halftime lead.

Senior running back Cody Sprecher had Reardan's other touchdown in the second quarter.

Reardan gained 372 yards of total offense to 339 for Colfax, but it was the Bulldogs who capitalized on scoring opportunities. Reardan was hurt by three turnovers, including two interceptions and a fumble that Colfax returned for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Colfax also converted three fourth downs in the game, and Reardan converted just once on four attempts.

Reardan closes the regular season with a rivalry home game against Davenport Friday, Oct. 29. Colfax, meanwhile, will try to stay in the hunt for a district crossover game and state playoff berth with a difficult task at first-place Lind-Ritzville/Sprague that same night.
