Reardan volleyball draws Colfax in districts

COLFAX--The Reardan volleyball team enjoyed an 8-6 regular season and were the eighth and final NE2B team to qualify for the league district tournament. The team's reward? An opening round matchup at undefeated Colfax to begin the tournament Monday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.

Reardan was swept by Colfax on Senior Night Tuesday, Oct. 26, but was hardly the only team to suffer that fate. Colfax, which is 13-0 and ranked No. 1 in the WIAA RPI for state 2B volleyball teams, has only lost two sets all season.

The tournament is a double-elimination format, so win or lose, Reardan is guaranteed at least two games next week. The next game would be Wednesday, Nov. 3. If Reardan pulls off a huge upset and beats Colfax, they'll advance to the district semifinals and travel to the winner of No. 4 seeded Asotin and No. 5 seeded Upper Columbia Academy.

If Colfax stays undefeated and beats Reardan, Reardan would play the loser of Asotin/UCA in a loser-out game Wednesday.

Other first-round matchups in the district tournament include No. 2 seed Lind-Ritzville/Sprague hosting No. 7 seed Northwest Christian (Colbert) and No. 3 seed Chewelah hosting No. 6 seed Liberty (Spangle).

The games Nov. 1 and Nov. 3 will be held at the home gym of the higher seed. The final day of districts, Nov. 4, will be at Liberty and will feature the district title game, loser's bracket semifinals and the third place game. The top three teams at districts advance to the state playoffs in Yakima.
