Family Dollar construction begins in Davenport

Owner estimates opening at end of summer

DAVENPORT—The long-awaited and somewhat controversial Family Dollar store that’s been in the works here since Fall 2020 has finally broken ground. Construction crews began turning up ground at the former Lyons Park site Monday, Feb. 7.

Property owner Brian Anderson said the Family Dollar, a retail chain store similar to the Dollar Tree, is expected to be open for business late this summer.

The permitting was completed in City Hall last week. Family Dollar is responsible for constructing the building’s interior and handling the permitting and business licensing, while Baker Construction of Spokane will be doing the physical building.

The site is located between Morgan, Logan, First and Second Streets. Some residents in that area voiced concerns with the building of the site in September, many of which appeared to be quelled after multiple discussions concerning the Logan Street right-of-way and its vacation in which citizens were assured their property lines wouldn’t be affected by Baker Construction staff and city council.

Councilmembers were told in October that construction had been pushed to spring due to supply chain issues, but this week’s groundbreaking indicates that was moved up slightly.

Anderson told The Times that one delivery truck will come into the city to deliver supplies per week during the daytime and shouldn’t affect noise levels for neighboring homes at night.

The city originally purchased the Lyons Park property in Fall 2020 and sold it for $75,000 with the building of a Family Dollar in mind.
