Local class celebrates 100 days of school

HARRINGTON – The local kindergarten class celebrated 100 days of school on Friday, Feb. 11 by visiting downtown.

The eight children, led by their teacher Taunya Sanford and assisted by Tammy Putney, began their field trip at the Harrington Opera House/Bank Block Building. There they viewed 100 bricks outlined on the historic building built in 1904.

In the lobby, which once was a bank, each student received play money to purchase a ticket and a mask and proceeded upstairs to attend a Masquerade Ball where they pretended to greet each other and danced to ragtime music typical of what might have been played at a dance in the room 100 years ago in 1922.

The class next stopped at the Post & Office where they counted 100 donuts made by Julie Jacobsen and were treated by Heather Wagner to cups of hot cocoa.

Then they crossed the street where they met Paula Harrington, owner of Studio1onSThird. Paula had embroidered special shirts for each of the children to wear for the day that said "I stuck through 100 days."

She also had a colorful display of 100 fat squares of fabric.

Stop No. 4 was the Harrington Post Office where the students were shown a roll of 100 stamps and they also counted on sheets of stamps to 100.

The final stop of the morning was the Harrington Food Mart where owner, Austin Fries, showed and counted out 100 candy items.

After the field trip, teacher Taunya mentioned to her mom, "Only in a small town would you have the red carpet rolled out for the Kindergarten 100th day of school field trip."
