Eight local wrestlers qualify for state

WARDEN-East Lincoln County will be well-represented at the State Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome this weekend. Four wrestlers from Davenport and four from Reardan qualified for the state meet at regionals last Saturday, Feb. 12 and will represent their schools and cities on the West Side.

Davenport's Sam Schneider, brothers Brody Schillinger and Brock Gustaveson and Matthew Wines qualified for the Gorillas, while Reardan will be represented by Preston Neufeld, J.C. Marriott, Conner Kline and Tristin Burril. Hunter Neusbaumer and Carson Durbin are traveling with the team as alternates.

The Mat Classic in Tacoma is Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19.

Below are each local wrestler's outcomes at the regional tournament.

Davenport results at regionals

145-Zander Hoff fell to Dahani Trupp of Warden by decision 9-7 and Christian Carson of Lake Roosevelt by decision 6-3 and didn't qualify for state.

152-Matthew Wines defeated Simon Jones of Kittitas by fall 2:49 and Tyge Plank of Tonasket by fall 1:45 before falling to Cody Northwind of Granger by major decision 13-3. Wines then defeated Jared Haden of Chewelah by fall 4:34 and fell to Ashton Strobel of Liberty by decision 5-2 to finish fourth and qualify for state.

160-Brody Schillinger defeated Josiah Beiter of Cle Elum-Roslyn by fall 1:19 before falling to Johnny Swartsel of Okanogan by fall 1:33. He then defeated Nathan Mendez of Warden by decision 4-3, Kaiden Palmer of Lake Roosevelt by fall 3:47 and Thomas Sheeley of Kittitas before falling to Zeke Crockett of Chewelah by fall 0:39 to finish fourth and qualify for state.

182-Sam Schneider defeated Ryden Zabreznik of Okanogan by fall 2:21 before falling to Ricky Cisneros of Granger by fall 2:47. He then defeated Marquis Gourneau of Granger by forfeit and Braedyn White of Pomeroy by fall 4:01 to finish third and qualify for state.

195-Brock Gustaveson fell to Noah Holston of Liberty Bell by fall 2:35 before defeating Anthony Ceja of Highland by fall 2:54 and Cody Jenkins of Davenport by decision 7-2. Gustaveson then fell to Jevin Stricker of Mary Walker by decision 6-2 before defeating Carson Durbin of Reardan by fall 2:50 to finish fifth and qualify for state.

195-Cody Jenkins defeated David Nunez of Tonasket by fall 1:14 before falling to Birch Verdino of River View by fall 3:32. Jenkins then defeated Aaron Roberts of Liberty by fall 1:40 before falling to Gustaveson and didn't qualify for state.

220-Skyler Conway fell to Charles Payne of Okanogan by fall 1:30 before defeating Spencer Conner of Mary Walker by fall 2:54. Conway then fell to Hans Miles of River View by major decision 9-0 and didn't qualify for state.

285-Willie Waters fell to Marcos Velasquez of Mabton by fall 3:36 and Joseph Cates of Okanogan by fall 0:49 and didn't qualify for state.

Reardan results at regionals

106-Preston Neufeld defeated Noel Guillen of Granger by decision 9-2 before falling to Roger Cate of Lake Roosevelt by fall 0:35. Neufeld then defeated Hunter Neusbaumer of Reardan by fall 0:54 before falling to Guillen by fall 3:30 to finish fourth and qualify for state.

106-Hunter Neusbaumer fell to Gio Castro of Warden by fall 1:21 before defeating Miguel Depaz of Tonasket by decision 9-6 and Maxwell Motteshard of Chewelah by fall 2:40. Neusbaumer then fell to Neufeld by fall 0:54 and Michael Gonzalez of Warden by fall 0:35 and didn't qualify for state.

120-J.C. Merriott fell to Junior Santiago of Warden by fall 3:52 before defeating Travis Wellhausen of Mary Walker by decision 7-0, Adrian Gallegos of Kittitas by fall 1:36, Matthew Donaglia of Tonasket by decision 7-0 and Adrian Alvarez of Granger by decision 11-5 to finish third and qualify for state.

120-Troy Routh fell to Aaron Polito of Tonasket by fall 0:41 and Emaan Sandhu of Republic/Curlew by decision 8-6 and didn't qualify for state.

126-Carson Kline fell to Keenan Denison of Tonasket by major decision 9-0 and Jameson Davis of Selkirk by decision 11-10 and didn't qualify for state.

126-Noah Hamilton fell to Bryce Waddell of Goldendale by fall 2:00 before defeating Nathan Finley of Mary Walker by fall 1:37. Hamilton then fell to Jameson Davis of Selkirk by decision 8-6 and didn't qualify for state.

138-Cody Routh fell to Israel Hernandez of Warden by fall 3:43 and Maddex Strobel of Liberty by fall 4:48 and didn't qualify for state.

152-Aiden Chilson fell to Rufino Gonzalez of Warden by fall 1:28 and Tyge Plank of Tonasket by fall 2:02 and didn't qualify for state.

160-Conner Kline fell to Fabien Garduno of White Swan by decision 5-4 before defeating Mitchell Lencioni of Liberty by fall 0:51 and Mike Bauman of Northwest Christian by fall 2:13. Kline then fell to Zeke Crockett of Chewelah by fall 1:59 before defeating Thomas Sheeley of Kittitas by fall 0:44 to finish fifth and qualify for state.

195-Carson Durbin defeated Anthony Ceja of Highland by fall 2:42 before falling to Granger Sutton of Tonasket by fall 1:02. Durbin then defeated Omar Pruneda of Warden by fall 2:39 before falling to Birch Verdino of River View by fall 3:39 and Brock Gustaveson by fall 2:50 and didn't qualify for state.

220-Tristin Burril defeated Ayden Nolan of Mary Walker by fall 0:13 before falling to Charles Payne of Okanogan by fall 4:55. He then defeated Hans Miles of River View by fall 1:35 and Bo Fox of Tonasket by fall 2:52 to finish third and qualify for state.
