HARRINGTON—A footrace was required for Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputy Jon Evans to detain a suspect breaking into Johnson Family Towing last weekened.

Evans responded to a call of a break in at Johnson Family Towing outside of Harrington Thursday, April 28 about 8:15 p.m, according to a release from Sheriff Wade Magers.

The caller reported that a man had gotten into the tow yard and was breaking into vehicles. Evans responded and observed a man, later identified as 61-year-old David Rickard, in the tow yard.

When Rickard saw Evans he took off running west. Evans engaged in a foot pursuit before overtaking and detaining Rickard.

The caller identified Rickard as the suspect. Rickard had taken two boxes-worth of property from a car in the tow yard before being taken into custody, according to the release.

The investigation ruled that Rickard had cut a chain link fence to gain entrance and exit from the tow yard. Rickard had multiple burglary tools on him, which he stated he was going to use to break the car window if it was locked, according to the release.

Evans booked Rickard into Lincoln County Jail on charges of burglary, malicious mischief, theft and possession of burglary tools.

Deputy Evans did an outstanding job in the chase, Magers said in the release.Rickard is currently being investigated for other felony cases within Lincoln County, Magers reported.
