Four grads receive diplomas in Harrington

HARRINGTON-Girl power was on display at this year's graduation, as an all-female Class of 2022 was recognized in a ceremony in the high school gym Friday, June 3.

This year's class included Caroline Slack, Patience Clark, Emily Nixon and Kaylen Behrens. The four walked in one-by-one around the gym before heading up the aisle to the stage as "Pomp and Circumstance" echoed through the speakers.

The school band played the National Anthem before valedictorian Caroline Slack offered an invocation. Principal Tiffany Clouse then presented the class.

Having such a low number of graduates allows each member of the class to offer their own speech. Slack, as valedictorian, went first, followed by Clark, Nixon and Behrens.

Commencement speaker Michael Cronrath, a history teacher at the high school, took the stage next.

The highlight of his speech was leading the graduates on one last "mask break," a walk around the gym to remember the mask-mandated days at school when students would take a break from their face coverings while outdoors.

Lauren Schultz then announced scholarships and awards before a senior video played. Diplomas were then presented by superintendent Wayne Massie, Clouse and members of the school board Shelley Quigley, Darren Mattozzi, Jon Evans, Justin Slack and Mark Kramer.

The ceremony then concluded with a recessional.
