Highway 2 construction project timeline updated

Projected end date of June 24 still intact

DAVENPORT—Commuters going east and west on Highway 2 between here and Reardan have been faced with the choice of sitting in long construction delays or testing their knowledge of area farm roads during the past month as crews continue work on the state highway’s 13-mile stretch.

This week, the delays have come in Davenport city limits and just east of the city. Crack sealing was done Monday, June 6 as traffic was piloted through the city.

That work was expected to continue east toward Reardan as crews crack-seal roadway shoulders along the stretch.

This work is expected to run through June 10 and cause delays of up to 15 minutes as commuters are piloted through the highway.

A 10-day break from work is on the updated project timeline from June 11-19. Crews are scheduled to return the week of June 20-24 for roadway striping and final cleanup.

Work may be delayed by any adverse weather circumstances, including rain, project manager Randy Silvrants said in an email.

Sunset Highway remains open as a potential detour for drivers when delays occur closer to Davenport, though many locals prefer to avoid the old highway east of Bennett Road due to poor road conditions and a plethora of potholes.
