Davenport Senior Center at risk of shutting down

Donations needed to keep center afloat

DAVENPORT-- The Senior Center is in danger of having to close its doors and losing its ability to provide its meal program for senior citizens.

Due to the present state of the economy, including high fuel and food costs, COVID-19 restrictions (past and ongoing) and the loss of many of our members and financial support of those members, the senior center may have to close.

The Davenport Senior Center provides meals to approximately 30 local seniors three days per week. They work closely with Lincoln Hospital and Clinic with presentations to help seniors stay healthy and safe in their own homes.

The Aging and Adult Care Of Central Washington works out of the Senior Center office several days per month helping to coordinate care for local seniors.

The Senior Center is in process of acquiring a food service contract with the State of Washington, but this is taking longer than expected, president Carl Clark said in a press release.

“Although we have applied for several grants they have not been forthcoming, and funding is urgently needed to help keep our doors open to the seniors of the Davenport community,” Clark wrote. “We are desperately seeking all donations and Grants.”

Those wishing to financially assist the Senior Center can contact 509-725-7055 or 509-641-2178. An email option can be found at davenportseniorcenter@gmail.com.
