Odessa opens with ranked matchup vs. Liberty Bell

ODESSA–High school football begins this Friday, Sept. 2 as the Tigers face off against Liberty Bell High School of Winthrop located in the north central portion of the North Cascades. Game time for this game only has been bumped to 7:30 p.m. at Finney Field, although the remaining season’s games will start at 7 p.m. per the published schedule barring unforeseen circumstances.

As the season begins, the MaxPreps sports website has ranked Odessa in fourth place among 1B schools in the state. Liberty Bell is ranked eleventh. The top state ranking per MaxPreps is Odessa’s league rival Almira-Coulee-Hartline which is coming off of a 12-0 season last fall.

Several seniors from that team have now graduated, so it will be interesting to see how the season progresses. Odessa also has a young team that acquitted itself very well last season. But quarterback Collin Martin is a senior this year and should provide experience and leadership to the younger players.

Next week, Odessa has a bye, so the next football game will be on Friday, Sept. 16, when the Tigers face Mary Walker High School of Springdale in another home game, the celebrated Sausage Bowl that takes place during the Deutschesfest weekend in Odessa.
