Davenport shuts out Asotin 21-0

ASOTIN—So far this season, the Davenport football team has taken care of business in games it is supposed to win. That held true against the Asotin Panthers, whom the Gorillas shut out 21-0 Friday, Sept. 16.

Senior fullback Sam Schneider got the scoring early for Davenport with a one-yard rush in the first quarter. Senior tight end Hunter Ensor, a transfer from Cheney, scored his first touchdown as a Gorilla on a 19-yard strike from junior quarterback Jaeger Jacobsen a minute in the second quarter.

Senior running back Evan Gunning wrapped up the scoring for Davenport with a 74-yard touchdown run halfway through the third quarter.

Gunning almost hit the 200-yard mark on the ground, rushing for 194 yards on 11 attempts. Schneider had 91 yards rushing himself.

Jacobsen passed four times and completed two of his attempts for 22 yards.

Cameron Clovis led the Panthers with 46 rushing yards and 23 receiving yards.

Now, the schedule gets a lot tougher for the 3-0 Gorillas, who are ranked No. 7 in the state A.P. media poll. A trip to No. 5 Lind-Ritzville/Sprague is on deck Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. The defending district champion Broncos are 2-1, having lost a nail biter at Liberty in the second week of the season.

After the trip to LRS, the No. 3 Liberty Lancers come to Davenport for a monumental game Friday, Sept. 30.
