COLFAX – Reardan volleyball was in control of its own destiny after defeating Davenport on Nov. 2.

Reardan needed two wins to secure the No. 3 seed in the district to advance to the State Tournament in Yakima.

The Screaming Eagles were unable to do so, losing in three sets to the Upper Columbia Academy Lions in a loser-out game.

Reardan was initially able to keep pace with Upper Columbia Academy – losing, albeit by a narrow margin, in the early stages of the first set 9-6.

This was the closest the Screaming Eagles came to the Lions, with UCA going on a 16-3 run from that point on and taking the first set by a score of 25-9.

The second set didn’t bode much better for Reardan, being outscored 20-5 after tying up the set in the early goings at 5-5.

Reardan took a narrow 15-14 lead in a third set that had 15 total ties after being down 6-3 in the early goings.

Reardan increased that lead to 22-19 later in the match but couldn’t keep the distance, with the Lions and the Screaming Eagles going back and forth before Upper Columbia Academy took the set 31-29 for the overall match win and the berth to the consolation bracket final later in the day.
