Reardan girls slowed by Brewster

REARDAN - The Screaming Eagles girls basketball team got better throughout their game against the Brewster Bears Tuesday, but a bevy of turnovers against Brewster's full-court press was too much to overcome for Reardan. The Bears topped the Screaming Eagles 54-46 Dec. 20.

Most of Brewster's damage was done by sophomore Morgan McGuire, who had 19 points and seven rebounds, and junior Gimena Hurtado, who scored 18 points and snared eight rebounds.

Brewster jumped out to a quick 15-6 first quarter lead that extended to 31-15 by halftime. Reardan played a much more solid second half, outscoring Brewster 31-23 after figuring out the press and finding open layups or drawing fouls for free shots at the charity stripe.

The Screaming Eagles ran action for senior Liberty Anderson to get open three-point shots in the fourth quarter to draw closer, three of which Anderson knocked down, but Reardan couldn't completely close the gap.

"I've talked to the girls all year, it's not about winning and the final score with this group," Reardan head coach Bob Swannack said. "I feel like we got a lot better and that was the first glimpse of being pretty good in the second half as a program so hopefully we can capitalize on that and take that into our next game."

Anderson led Reardan with 13 points and seven rebounds. Eighth-grader Tenice Waters added 11 points, but was hampered by foul trouble that kept her out of the entire third quarter and much of the second quarter.

Reardan's next matchup is against the Kettle Falls Bulldogs Thursday, Dec. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
