Wrestlers get solid results at Tri-County

SPOKANE VALLEY - Preston Neufeld, Brock Gustaveson and Vaea LaMoureux continued their good starts to the wrestling season, but they weren't the only Lincoln County wrestlers finishing with respectable results at the Tri-County Classic at Central Valley High School on Thursday, Dec. 22.

Neufeld of Reardan won the 106-pound boys divison by pinning Kouki VanHoose of Ferris in 29 seconds, Logan Gould of Hanford in 45 seconds, Joseph Meyers of Central Valley in 1:58 and Keagan Baugh of Newport in 53 seconds.

At girls 120, LaMoureaux of Reardan won four-of-five matches, pinning Serenna Swiger of Mary Walker in 1:41, Makenzie Shupe of Hanford in 1:48, Grace Jones of Colfax in 4:01 and Hope Lyons-Baker of Colfax in 3:21. LaMoureux fell to Jordyn Jamison of Hanford by decision 6-4.

Gustaveson of Davenport pinned Ashton Heid of West Valley in 2:14, defeated Cache Hatch of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 4-1 and pinned Josh Moreau of West Valley in 4:25 to win the 195-pound diviosin.

Other Reardan results included:

• Carson Kline finished fourth in the 126-pound division by pinning Ayden Ackerly of Central Valley in 16 seconds, Max Mayer of Pullman in 1:09, Roman Kurakin of Cheney in 1:03 and Joseph Carlone of Lakeside in 18 seconds. Kline lost, 11-7, to Nathan Cochran of Freeman and Evan McDougle of Pullman, 4-1.

• Carson Durbin was fifth at 195 pounds by pinning Matthew Bernardi of Ferris in 4:10, Eli Yackel of Central Valley in 1:27 and Aaron Roberts of Liberty in 2:27. Josh Moreau of West Valley pinned Durbin in 4:29.

• Tristin Burril was third at 285 pounds, pinning Damion Champine-Hammonds of Ferris in 2:27, Tristen Burd of Colfax in 27 seconds and Antonio Christensen of East Valley in 1:56. Burril lost, 5-0, to Tyler Pettigrew of Jenkins.

• At 285, Kai Goldsmith pinned Walker Reid of West Valley in 2:53, but was pinned by Gavin Chaffee in 53 seconds and lost 5-1 to Axel Nellenbach of Lewis and Clark.

• Joey Matusik, 106 pounds, beat Ethan Martin of Cheney 4-2 and pinned Nakoa Rocha of Northwest Christian (Colbert) in 4:16, but was pinned by Keagan Baugh of Newport in 2:47 and lost 9-8 to Nolan Zangara of Mount Spokane.

• At 120, Torin Zagorski was pinned by Ranson Labin of East Valley in 4:27 and lost by major decision to Aiden Carr of Cheney 13-1.

• Preston Winn, 160 pounds, pinned Laine Schloss of Mt. Spokane in 2:36 but was pinned by Clae Holling of Liberty in 57 seconds and Mel Hatch of Lakeside in 53 seconds.

In other Davenport results:

• At 120 pounds Chase Greenwood pinned by Harley Scott of West Valley in 2:37.

• At 182 pounds, Ryan Cash pinned Levi Wellner of Freeman in 2:08.

• Colton Truesdale, 160 pounds, pinned Cody Cayce of Freeman in 3:53 and lost to Gabriel Singley of Mount. Spokane 4-2.

• Stormy Conway was fourth at 110 pounds. She was pinned in 49 seconds by Heither Weyand of Hanford, then pinned Mersadies Miravalle of Lewis and Clark in 25 seconds. Mary Walker's Raina Zollman then pinned her in 31 seconds, followed by Layla Smith of Hanford in 49 seconds. Conway pinned teammate Kayla Andrews in 23 seconds.

• Kayla Andrews placed sixth at 110 pounds. She was pinned by Raina Zollman of Mary Walker in 1:02 and then Hearther Weyand of Hanford in 24 seconds. Andrews was then pinned by Layla Smith of Hanford in 46 seconds, Mersadies Miravalle of Lewis and Clark in 1:07 and Stormy Conway of Davenport in 23 seconds.

• Emma Cash placed fourth at 130 pounds, being pinned by Kathryn Ambute-Gibson of Lewis and Clark in 34 seconds and Alicia Mead of Mary Walker in 1:50.
