Odessa girls fall to Wellpinit

ODESSA-The Tigers lost their game 41-35 against the Redskins of Wellpinit Saturday, Jan. 14.

The game started with Wellpinit scoring four points within the first three minutes of game play.

Odessa senior Ashlyn Neilsen made four free throws and junior Hayden Schuh was able to make a layup, but by the end of the first quarter, Wellpinit led 12-6.

The start of the second quarter brought out a more aggressive Odessa. Junior Melloney Deife had a steal and two layups. Neilsen scored a three-point shot. Senior Grace Nelson sank a three-point shot of her own, but the Redskins returned with another 13 points to the Tigers' 11.

Wellpinit led 23-16 at halftime.

The third quarter started with Wellpinit scoring another five points, but Odessa gained some ground.

The Lady Tigers could score multiple layups, but Wellpinit kept coming back with three-point shots.

The third quarter concluded with Wellpinit still leading 33-25.

Multiple fouls plagued the last quarter by both teams and the Lady Tigers were able to score another 10 points to Wellpinit's eight, but it wasn't enough for Odessa to secure an upset victory.

Neilsen scored 13 points and had nine rebounds, Deife scored 10 points and Schuh scored six points and had 12 rebounds.

Senior Laela Hardung had 13 rebounds.

Wellpinit is currently ranked second in the NE1B. Inchelium is in the top spot, while Republic is in third and Odessa is in fourth place.

The Lady Tigers will take on the Lady Shockers at an away game against Waterville on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
