Davenport wins wrestling league dual
Sub-regionals to decide regional placements

RITZVILLE-Local wrestlers appear to be in a good spot as regionals and state approaches. Davenport won the league championship duals Saturday, Jan. 28 in the final team meet of the year.
The Gorillas topped Tekoa-Rosalia in the first round, Reardan in the second round and Northwest Christian in the third round to take the South league title.
Then, Davenport defeated Chewelah 39-26 in the league finals to take the championship.
Individual results weren't available at press time.
Reardan defeated Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 24-6 in the first round, lost to Davenport 48-30 in the quarterfinals and lost to a Pomeroy/Colfax co-op 12-6 in the consolation quarterfinals.
Preston Neufeld was 2-0, Torin Zagorski 1-0, Carson Kline 1-1, Conner Kline 1-0, Sterling McLaughlin 2-1, Josiah Mendoza 0-2, Tristin Burril 1-1 and Kai Goldsmith 1-0 for the Screaming Eagles.
The road to the Mat Classic State Championship in Tacoma now kicks into high gear. Davenport and Reardan's boys head to sub-regionals in Pomeroy Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m., while the girls are at Liberty High School in Spangle at 10:30 a.m. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to regionals.
Regionals are at Reardan High School Saturday, Feb. 11, where the top wrestlers will compete to head to the Tacoma Dome for state.
