Girls pull away on Senior Night

Davenport is 3rd North Seed for Districts

DAVENPORT-After a heartbreaking loss to Northwest Christian the night before, the Gorilla girls made sure their two seniors didn't suffer the same fate on Senior Night by defeating Kettle Falls 48-31.

Emalie Jacoby led all scorers with 15 points and three steals, while senior Kiersten Kemmerer added seven points. Fellow senior Lena Waters had three points and seven rebounds, while Clare Lathrop and Jensyn Jacobsen had six points and six rebounds apiece.

"In the start, it was kind of rough but we finally picked it up and realized what players we needed to guard harder," Waters said.

Davenport's win was the final home game for Waters and Kemmerer, who will now lead their team toward a hopeful postseason run at the District 7 tournament.

"We'll miss them. They're usually contributing on both ends and in all sorts of things: passing, getting assists, steals," Davenport head coach Stacia Soliday said. "Hopefully we can replace them statistically...but we'll miss their exuberance."

Davenport is the North No. 3 Seed for the District 7 2B girls tournament and has a tough draw against the Liberty Lancers in the quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.

"I think we can do really good if we keep trying our hardest and putting in all our effort," Kemmerer said.
