After beating Kettle Falls by nine points 24 hours earlier, the Screaming Eagles' boys basketball team fell to Saint George's 63-54, Friday, Jan. 28.

In a season of ups-and-downs, Reardan started fast on Senior Night, played the Dragons tough but faded in the end.

Logan Flaa had the hot hand for Reardan early in the game, hitting two 3-point shots. Flaa, along with Jakari Singleton and Rysen Soliday's combined eight points, put the Screaming Eagles on top 15-12 when the buzzer sounded ending the quarter.

When play resumed, the fire-breathing Dragons scored 23 second quarter points behind the shooting of Shawn Jones and Tanner Watkins, who combined for 16 points. Singleton and Soliday's combined 12 points kept the game close, but at intermission, Saint George's clung to a 35-31 lead.

In the second half, Reardan could not overtake the Dragons. Singleton and Cohen Little led the Screaming Eagles with 11 and four points, but the Dragons' Jones, John Nowland and Watkins combined for 22 points to ensure the Dragons' 63-54 victory.

Nowland led with 19 points for the Dragons. Jones followed with 17.

Singleton played tough under the basket and led all scorers with 21 points while adding eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Soliday and Flaa had 13 and nine points, respectively.

"We came together as a team pretty good but couldn't get it done tonight," Reardan's Tristo McCrea said. "It's too bad this was the last home game, but hopefully we can build on this as we go into districts."

Saint George's head coach Ryan Peplinski expected a competitive game from the Screaming Eagles and praised their tenacity and toughness.

"Like always, Reardan plays really hard," Peplinski said. "They made some big stops when they had to. They went through a scoring lull and we were able to take advantage of that. They will be a scary team come playoff time. We played them inside better than the first time we played them."

Reardan head coach Brian Graham thought his team played well in the first half but lamented the Senior Night loss.

"We were in pretty good shape until late in the second quarter when Logan (Flaa) got his third foul," Graham said. "We had consecutive turnovers, got behind and could never catch up. We didn't shoot the ball particularly well and that hurt us, too. Hunter (Wyncoop), Tristo (McCrea) and Logan (Flaa) are great senior leaders for us. It's just unfortunate we couldn't get them a win."

The victory improved Saint George's league record to 10-3. Reardan dropped to 5-9.

The Screaming Eagles were locked into the No. 4 seed out of the NE2B North Division with the loss and will begin District 7 tournament play in a loser-out game at West Valley High School against Upper Columbia Academy at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
