Floridian injured in truck crash

Man airlifted to hospital listed as stable

ROCKLYN - A Florida man survived a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 2 Thursday, Feb. 9.

Leandro Duenas Martinez, 32, was injured and transported via helicopter to an area hospital.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Martinez's Kenworth rollback tow truck was westbound on Highway 2 near Milepost 244 when it left the road, overturned and trapped him inside at approximately 9:10 a.m.

Fire District No. 5 firefighter Bob Johnson said Martinez was trapped inside the truck for nearly an hour before crews were able to get him out at 10:20 a.m.

He was airlifted to Lincoln Hospital's trauma center, where he was admitted with injuries and listed in stable condition, firefighters and the Washington State Patrol said.

Martinez was not wearing a seat belt, firefighters said. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.

The crash blocked the highway and forced its closure for more than two hours, officials said.

A tow truck was able to remove the wrecked truck from the roadway.

Traffic backed up near Davenport city limits to the east, forcing drivers to turn around or re-route their paths.
