Kamstra resigns as clerk/treasurer

REARDAN - Town clerk/treasurer Megan Kamstra is resigning her position effective Feb. 28 to embark on a career as an event planner.

The town hired Kamstra in 2019 to run its day-to-day operations. Her goal was "to be the next Bruce Johnson," her predecessor as clerk/treasurer.

"I knew I could never fill his shoes, but I did my best," she said.

She values her time working for the town and the opportunity given to hone her administrative and operational skills.

"I have really enjoyed working with the mayor, department heads, town council and especially the residents," Kamstra said.

Her next venture will allow Kamstra to use the skills she learned at Central Washington University, where she studied Recreation and Tourism Management. She formed M K Events, a business which will plan work conferences for professional organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest.

"I have made many dear friends in Reardan," Kamstra said. "I want to thank everyone who made my time here so enjoyable."

Mayor Gail Daniels praised Kamstra for her contributions to the town.

"The Town of Reardan is a better place because of Megan's organizational skills and warm personality," Daniels said. "She will be greatly missed, both personally and professionally."

The town hired Reardan resident Sam Mathis as Kamstra's replacement. Mathis most recently worked for EnerSys Batteries in Spokane Valley and has previous experience in manufacturing and banking.

Her first day on the job was Tuesday, Feb. 21.
