Design business in new location

3C Creations offers custom printing

DAVENPORT - The Morgan Street building formerly occupied by Davenport Sporting Goods is now home to 3C Creations and Expressions, a locally-owned business selling designs printed onto items like T-Shirts, water bottles and coffee mugs.

Longtime locals Micah and Carmelyn Choate have been operating out of the brick-and-mortar location next to Davenport Motor Company and the Senior Center since Nov. 2022.

Previously, the couple operated out of their local home. They began designing custom shirts and masks when the COVID-19 pandemic began.

"I was shipping and giving away the masks for free," Carmelyn Choate said. "A friend said, 'why don't you sell it?'"

The Choates have three methods for placing print designs onto textiles: Direct-to-film, sublimation and vinyl. The business has two types of lasers for various engravings.

Clients have included school sports teams and clubs, construction companies and local individuals.

"We designed the all-star game jerseys," Carmelyn Choate said, referring to the Bi-County All-Star game played at the local high school last weekend. "We did the warmups that the boys (basketball team) wore."

Micah Choate said he was approached last spring by Sporting Goods co-owner Jonn Chapman about possibly taking over the space across the street now occupied by Sage Marketplace.

Choate had helped Chapman with an engravement project for the Stauffer family after Mike Stauffer's passing in 2020, giving Chapman the idea for the Choate's business to take over the building when Sporting Goods moved out.

The Choates weren't ready for the move at the time but agreed to move into the current location when the time was right.

Most of the business's clients ask for custom designs as opposed to going into the store and buying an item off the shelf, but Micah Choate said both services are offered.

Micah Choate said he is usually in the store all day from about 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Carmelyn joins him after her work at the school, which includes paraprofessional and cheer coach duties.
