Odessa principal to retire

Nelson to leave at end of the school year

ODESSA - Longtime teacher and current PreK-12 principal Jamie Nelson will retire at the end of the school year. Her resignation/retirement notice was accepted by the school board at a special meeting Monday, May 8 and will become effective Friday, June 30.

Nelson will depart Odessa after nine years as principal. She's spent 30 years in education overall.

"While I have enjoyed my time as a teacher and then administrator, I am looking forward to some extra time to follow my children's college athletic events, explore hobbies, vacation and enjoy more time with family," Nelson said.

The move creates two administrative holes for the school district, which is also looking to replace interim superintendent Rob Clark.

Nelson pivoted back to her original answer when asked whether recent events, including frustrated parents voicing concerns with district staff at school board meetings and to the media, contributed to her decision.

"As I said in my earlier email, I have 30 years of educational experience, am able to retire at the end of the 2022-2023 school year and have decided to do so," she said.
