Bids discussed for fair improvements

Steel covered structure to move

DAVENPORT — The Lincoln County Commissioners considered two bids presented by Fair Office Manager Dawn Canfield to move the steel covered structure at the Fairgrounds currently next to Widmer Arena to near the outdoor stage area Tuesday, Sept. 5.

The move will include placing a concrete slab under the current structure where swine, goats and sheep are shown at the Fair and creating a sort of pavilion park area.

It comes after funding was secured in this year’s legislative budget for a new covered arena at the Fairgrounds announced earlier this year.

Halme Builders submitted the lowest bid at $54,000, while Battle Ground-based Apex submitted a $156,000 bid.

Before making a final decision, the Commissioners elected to investigate the budget availability in the county capital improvement budget and potential funding coming from the Dept. of Commerce, as the fair budget doesn’t have the funds to support the show ring move itself.

Officially, the proposal was tabled until the Monday, Sept. 18 meeting.
