Davenport XC takes to NWC jamboree

COLBERT — The Davenport cross country team got its first taste of competition against other school’s runners at the Josh Wright Memorial 2-Mile Jamboree at Northwest Christian School Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Individually, Davenport had several top-10 finishers.

In fact, on the girls side, four of Davenport’s five competitors were in the top 10 of the 17 competitors that also included runners from host NWC, Liberty, Newport and Colfax.

Charlotte Soliday finished second to NWC’s Allie Robertson with a time of 15:50, while Josie Wynecoop was third at 16:10 and Glenna Soliday fourth at 17:34.

Jessi Philips finished seventh at 20:09, while Alyssa Kruger ran 23:25 for a 14th-place finish.

NWC was the only team given an official team score at 15 points.

A larger boys race had two Gorillas finish in the top 10, with five Davenport runners part of the 31-man race that featured runners from NWC, Liberty, Kettle Falls, Cusick, Newport and Colfax.

Jaeger Jacobsen finished second to Liberty’s Mitchell Hanegan with a time of 12:54, while Thomas Furman was fifth at 13:58.

Colby Kiser was 13th at 17:16, Jacob Furman was 15th at 17:27 and Nick Kruger was 19th at 18:12 for the Gorillas.

The Gorilla boys finished third as a team, with Liberty taking first and NWC taking second.

Davenport and nearby Reardan both start official competition at Shadle Park High School Saturday, Sept. 9. The Highlander Invitational is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
