Senator Charles E. Myers, a local man running for Congress, addressed a “good sized crowd” while standing in an automobile in the street alongside Lincoln County State bank.

County school superintendent Carl Morgan spoke to the commercial club about financial concerns.

Estelle Ripke asked for a divorce from Richard Ripke after alleging her husband would not go to places of amusement with her.

Harry Heid and Dwight Pease sought to unseat Mayor C.W. Richards, while Norman C. Nelson filed to oppose H.K. Ferguson for councilman-at-large in Davenport.

A new bus service begins between Kettle Falls and Davenport.

Charles Haverstick of Lincoln pleaded guilty to breaking arrest and driving while drunk. He was fined $50 and sent to jail for 30 days.

50 years ago

Brad Stubbs, Martha Luiten, Susan Stockman, Ron Barbee, Mark Thompson, Martha Christman, Jed Jahn, Dick Heitman, Mike Strite and Mrs. Ronald Harmon won prizes at the Chamber of Commerce Who-S-It booth at the Lincoln County Fair.

The Davenport ambulance crew included Howard Stormo, John Johnson, Gary King, Bob Martin, Cliff Hutsell, Ron Wilke, Bill Katz, Bruce McGuire, Stan Stockman, Dale Abbott, Dale Stockman, Frank Kronas and Bob Olsen.

Janice McNielly of Edwall earned her RN and returned to work at Lincoln Hospital.

The Harrington Opera House Society hosted a benefit for local artist Donald Putman.

Authorities found illegal marijuana near Hawk Creek and north of Reardan. William Portrey of Davenport was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to manufacture or deliver.

Fair secretary Anne Filion said 5,900 people came through the gate for the weekend.

Professional baseball player Cal Ripkin Jr. ended his streak of 2,632 consecutive games played.

17-year-old Max Mielke returned to school a few days after suffering a slight skull fracture in a football game against Lakeside.

Two employees, Cal Gilmer and Ryan Behrens, were hospitalized after a valve broke on a rail car filled with about 20,000 to 25,000 gallons of aqua ammonia at Crop Production Services in Harrington.

Shelley Martin was removed as president of the Sprague Chamber of Commerce after what she described as a “vicious coup.”
