School board approves 11 motions

ODESSA — The local school board approved 11 action items at the regular meeting in the high school library Wednesday, Sept. 27.

But before voting on action items took place, administration offered reports. Superintendent Steve Fisk said the current headcount is 209 students before sharing he’s applying for special education, consolidated title and football field light, bathroom and school electrical panel repair and playground renovation grants.

Fisk also said he completed emergency sub applications for Danielle Scrupps and Marra Schmierer while adding Tori King and Julie Lambert to the substitute paraeducator list.

Principal Cori Kane said ASVAB, ACT and PSAT testing is coming this month. Kane and Kimberly Ryan are working to schedule a post-secondary hour for three hours allowing high school students to work on scholarships, resumes and college research.

Operations supervisor Justin Parr said Avista is testing football field electrical poles to see if they can support new lights.

In new business, the board approved the following items:

Scheduling the next board meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the high school library, with a 5:15 p.m. workshop preceding.

Hiring Charles Short as high school boys basketball assistant coach.

Appointing Megan Walter as junior class advisor.

Appointing Lindsy Starkel as photojournalist.

Paying a reading assessment coordinator stipend to Kristen Sebesta.

Agreeing to a 504 professional services contract for Katie Douglas.

Increasing the revolving fund balance to $2,000 to avoid bank fees.

Extending the elementary and high school secretary contracts by five days.

Sports postseason overnight stays for football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, track and golf.

The CTE compliance report.

Rescheduling conferences from Nov. 7-9 to Nov. 20-22.
