Jenkins sweeps Reardan

REARDAN - After facing a large deficit in their first set, the Screaming Eagles' volleyball team gave Jenkins (Chewelah) all they could handle before losing the match 3-0 on Thursday, Oct 12.

Chewelah jumped to an 11-4 first set lead and never looked back. The Screaming Eagles' Emersen Sprecher and Kaylynn Clouse scored three and two kills, respectively, but their efforts were not enough to deny the Cougars their 25-16 win.

Chewelah notched a 10-1 run in the second set en route to a 16-6 lead. The Screaming Eagles fought back, but their rally came up short as Chewelah won 25-19.

Raegan Soliday accounted for 12 of her game high 22 digs in that set and Lillie Whitman had five assists.

The Screaming Eagles played like a different team in the third set. They stood toe-to-toe with Chewelah and, for the first time in the match, took the offensive.

After falling behind 5-0, Reardan, fueled by Soliday's three aces, outscored the Cougars 12-3. Reardan led down the homestretch 20-17 but Chewelah closed the gap and won 26-24.

"We played better throughout the match but were a young team that makes errors in bunches and that puts us behind the eight ball sometimes," Reardan assistant coach Mike Lyon said. "Once our passing and serving improves, we'll be able to put teams away in close games like this."

Sprecher led Reardan with seven kills, followed by Clouse, who had five. Whitmore recorded 14 assists and Rylynn Green notched four blocks.

Reardan dropped a four-set match at Asotin Tuesday, Oct.17 and ends the regular season at home against Colfax at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19.
