Screaming Eagles split in soccer

Reardan tops KF, falls to NWC

REARDAN - With not enough players to field a complete squad, the Screaming Eagles' soccer team went into their game Saturday, Oct. 14 against Northwest Christian knowing they had already lost by forfeit. Despite the outcome having already been determined the teams agreed to play nine against nine. The Crusaders won the matchup 5-1.

Because of injuries, Reardan juniors Reagan Board and Mackenzie Bjornberg watched from the bench as their nine teammates squared off against a NWC squad with 22 players on its roster.

After 10 minutes of back-and-forth play in the first half, Claire Wichman put the Crusaders on the scoreboard with the game's first goal.

Wichman delivered a hat trick when she scored her third goal of the first half with 15:00 remaining. At the half NWC led 4-0.

Reardan's Noelle Raczykowski found the net midway through the second half with a hard shot from left of the goal to make the score 4-1.

NWC scored its fifth goal with 11:30 remaining in the game to seal the Crusaders' 5-1 win.

Reardan head coach Richard Breedlove was proud of his team's effort.

"We started the game down two players and then lost another one in the second half," he said. "After that, we really had no options, but the girls still played their hearts out."

Reardan rebounded with a resounding 9-5 victory over Kettle Falls Tuesday, Oct. 19, playing with nine players to KF's 11. Raczykowski scored a whopping eight goals and notched an assist.

The Screaming Eagles will play their last game of the season at 4 p.n. Monday, Oct. 23 at St. George's.
