Council adopts 2024 budget

DAVENPORT — City council adopted the balanced 2024 budget after a public hearing at its regular meeting Wednesday, Nov. 22.

The city is budgeting for $8,542,208 in resources and $7,444,975 in expenditures, which would leave the city $1,097,233 in the black.

Predicted expenditures include:

$1,657,475 to current expense

$80,000 to employment reserves

$105,000 to park reserves

$1,000 to swimming pool reserves

$46,500 to the library

$182,300 to the cemetery

$777,850 to streets

$500 to vandalism rewards

$75,000 to street equipment reserves

$1,060,000 to airport capital improvements

$90,000 to fire equipment reserves

$26,000 to cemetery reserves

$345,000 to general capital improvements

$60,500 to tourism

$162,700 to the airport

$57,750 to park bond reserves

$584,700 to water

$623,000 to sewers

$614,700 to garbage

$100,000 to sewer equipment reserves

$280,000 to water capital improvements

$515,000 to sewer capital improvements

The adopted budget includes a 4% base wage increase for city employees. The annual salary for full-time employees is $109,237.19 for the city administrator, $87,613 for the clerk/treasurer, $66,973.05 for the deputy clerk/treasurer, $66,973.05 for the assistant maintenance superintendent and $61,296.52 for city crew members.

The mayor will be paid $675 per meeting, while councilmembers make $160 per meeting.
