Reardan grapplers start season at two tournaments

REARDAN – The Screaming Eagles opened the wrestling season by hosting the Reardan Takedown Tournament, Friday, Dec 1.

Carson Kline and H. K. Bird each won two matches. Alex Matusik, Joey Matusik, Landon Smith, Levi Hutton, Connor Kline and Carson Durbin each won one match.

On Saturday, Dec 2., the team took part in the Medical Lake Scramble where they placed fifth out of 16 teams. Six Screaming Eagles earned medals in the meet.

Joey Matusik took first place in the 106 pound weight class by pinning Liam Fletcher of Mt. Spokane, Cameron Van Santen of Mt. Spokane and Maddox Taft of Mt. Spokane.

Alex Matusik took third place in the 120 pound weight class by pinning Wyatt Gibler of Lind-Ritzville. He then lost to Tayden Tonasket of Medical Lake before pinning Sawyer Sullivan of Mt. Spokane, Marcus Divelbliss of Mt. Spokane and Waylon Rosman of Lind-Ritzville. In his last match, he pinned Tonasket in their second go-round to claim the third spot.

Landon Smith, competing at 132 pounds lost to Alexander Bonner of Lind-Ritzville, pinned Elias Ruelas of Chelan and lost to Chase Noll from Mt. Spokane.

Carson Kline recorded four pins to win the 138 pound weight class. He defeated Jet Shee of Lewis and Clark, Matthew House of Mt. Spokane, and in 12 seconds, Logan Ottack of Colville.

Competing at 150 pounds, H.K. Bird lost to Theron Daily of Colville and Elija Melum of Mt. Spokane.

Also competing at 150 pounds, Levi Hutton lost to Elijah Newman of West Valley and Emmitt Priddy of Deer Park.

Connor Kline placed first in the 190 pound weight class with two pins. He defeated Kaleb Klempel of Quincy, Ronald Ensor of Cheney and James Evans of Lewis and Clark.

Carson Durbin placed fourth in the 215 pound weight class, recording two pins. He defeated Alejandro Aguilar of Quincy and lost to Matthew Duthie of West Valley. In the consolation round he defeated Carlos Rivas of West Valley, Alejandro Barajas of Quincy and Osvaldo Hernandez of Quincy, before losing to True Cole of Medical Lake.

Danika Bretz won her weight class with two pins.
