Reardan cruises to win over LRS

REARDAN - With three players scoring in double figures, the Screaming Eagles cruised to a 71-46 win over Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington Saturday, Jan. 6.

Broncos freshman Joey Duff came out of the chute with guns blazing, firing two quick shots, resulting in four quick points for the Broncos. Unfortunately for LRS, his night on the court ended minutes later after suffering a dislocated knee.

Reardan took advantage of Duff's absence and took control of the game. Rysen Soliday pounded the ball inside for 10 first quarter points and Evan Krupke added six points from the outside.

After one quarter, Reardan led 22-14.

Reardan's hot shooting continued into the second quarter, outscoring LRS 20-4. Justin Vaughn led the attack with three long range 3-pointers to give him nine points in the quarter.

Krupke tossed in seven points as Reardan extended its halftime lead to 42-18.

Brock Kinch and Shawn Steinberger came up big for the Broncos in the third quarter, scoring eight and seven points, respectively. LRS outscored Reardan 17-14 in the quarter but could not put a dent in the Screaming Eagles' lead.

Reardan freshman Fred Frolov came on strong in the last frame, scoring seven points and controlling the boards with five rebounds to help wrap up the 71-46 win.

Soliday led the Screaming Eagles in scoring with 19 points followed by Krupke and Vaughn, who scored 15 and 11 points, respectively. Frolov scored nine points and led his team in rebounds with nine.

Kinch scored 17 points for LRS. Steinberger and Lance Williamson scored 11 and nine points, respectively.

"We played really well tonight," Krupke said. "It was important that we bounce back after losing to Asotin. The most important thing we did in this game was to make our easy shots, play solid defense and finishing strong."

Soliday agreed. He stressed the importance of executing basketball fundamentals.

"We haven't been very consistent this year, so it was nice to put a good game together," Soliday said. "Our boxing out and rebounding were much better tonight. It is the key to every game we win. I think Frolov played especially well tonight. He had plenty of opportunities to score but was always looking for other guys."

With the win, Reardan improved to 6-6. LRS dropped to 6-7.

"The game wasn't perfect, but we did a much better job on the little things that matter," Reardan head coach Jake Green said. "We blocked out, moved the ball and got out in transition.

Reardan also beat Upper Columbia Academy 60-35 Tuesday, Jan. 9.
