Baseball teams win, softball falls

SPRINGDALE - It was a mixed bag for local baseball and softball teams in the past week in final action before spring break.

The Odessa baseball team was the most dominant of the bunch, getting two convincing wins at Mary Walker Saturday, March 30. The Tigers dominated the Chargers 22-9 in the first game of a doubleheader, getting extra base hits from Bo Walter, Dakota Steward and Zach Claassen.

And the second game was also a 13-run margin, with Odessa getting a 16-3 win as Walter pitched a 10-strikeout 2-hitter in five innings of work.

Odessa is back on the road for an all-Tigers matchup at Republic Tuesday, April 9.

The Reardan baseball team was also doubly successful last Saturday, getting two wins over league rival Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

Reardan topped the Broncos 15-3 in the first game of a doubleheader. LRS kept the second game much closer, but ultimately fell 11-9.

The Screaming Eagles' youthful softball team had more trouble with the visiting Broncos. LRS topped Reardan 23-3 in the first game of the doubleheader and 25-8 in the second game.

Reardan was at Medical Lake Wednesday, April 3, with first pitch after press time. The Screaming Eagles make the trek south to take on Asotin Tuesday, April 9.

Davenport's young baseball and softball bunches both struggled with visiting Liberty last Saturday.

The baseball team, playing the Lancer varsity squad, fell 15-4 in the first game of the doubleheader and 13-1 in the second game.

And the softball team was shutout twice against a Liberty squad that is undefeated so far this season at 10-0. The scores were 12-0 and 25-0 in favor of the Lancers.

Davenport will next host a doubleheader with Colfax Friday, April 12.
